A Great Accomplishement for a new and growing program!
Local Bantam Major Hockey Team Wins Championship In Philadelphia
The Rochester RedWings Hockey Program Bantam Major team coached by Jay Kirk went 6 – 0 last weekend to win the Philadelphia AA regional qualifier of the prestigious Silver Sticks International Hockey Challenge. Silver Sticks is the oldest and largest running tournament in North America founded in 1908.
The RedWings beat Hudson Valley Polar Bears out of New York City in the final game 6-2.
Brian Johnson, (Pittsford) and Brian Haude, (Hilton) each won three games leading the team to the championship. The 20-player 14 years in age team is made up of players from all over Monroe and surrounding counties. The most impressive stat of the weekend was that the team was only assessed 18- total penalties the entire weekend, an average of only three per game and scored an amazing 6-short handed during the six game weekend.
We are now a very disciplined team that has learned to play with focus, that is why we are able to win the tight games and break open tight games says Kirk. The Rochester RedWings Hockey program, in only its forth year of exhistance has gained notoriety through the growth and development of the 1991 born players, its inaguaral team.
The team will travel to Port Huron Michigan January 12th – 15th to compete in the 44th annual North American Finals against other USA and Canadian regional champions.
